About Us
Subhacitta means “Beautiful Mind” in Pali
We are a small, independent company providing sustainable, meaningful academic learning and life skills.
In the Pali language of ancient India, Subha ( pronounced soo ba) means “beautiful”. Citta (prounced sit ta) means “mind”.
At Subhacitta, we realize that a mind is beautiful like a lotus. In muddy waters, a lotus’s blooming potential is not immediately recognizable. But surely and steadily, with enough sunlight, the lotus reaches above murky waters to bloom beautifully.
A Holistic Approach to Learning
-
We don’t just teach an academic subject. We show how different subjects relate. We also help students build their own inner resources for life-long success, such as problem solving, critical thinking, stress-reduction and coping skills.
-
We collaborate with students and their families and we listen to your individual needs. We also build on the student’s talents and strengths.
-
We realize that a focus on just grades and test scores can stress students out rather than motivate them to learn more and better. We help students to see for themselves how school subjects can apply to to their everyday life. We foster learning and strategies that last. Excellent grades and test scores are the natural byproduct.

From Eugenia:
“My anthropology background helps me to genuinely respect each child’s background and each family’s culture.
My training and experience in education help me to assess each child’s unique academic strengths and needs and help formulate solutions that are sustainable for both the child and their families.
My reading specialist training helps me to see the importance of problem solving, reading comprehension and vocabulary development across all subjects.
My own practice of mindfulness meditation, which I first learned in Burma and Thailand as a part of my Princeton University anthropology research work, helps me to be an especially patient, calm, and compassionate educator.”
